Frequently Asked Questions

SEASON PLAY

ATTENTION TEAM CAPTAINS: Once you have completed your team registration, you are required to add all players to your team roster. This will send players an email inviting them to register as a player on your roster. Each player must complete the registration and accept the Code of Conduct and Liability Waiver before being allowed to play. Teams with incomplete registration will be dropped prior to the start of the season.

    • How many games do we play each week?
Each 2-hour time slot is a double header, where you will play one match against one team, best 2 out 3 games, in the first hour. Then you will play against another team, best 2 out of 3 games, in the second hour. For example, if you register your team for the Monday 6-8pm slot, your team will play on Monday every week. You will play against one team at 6pm and then you will play against a different team at 7pm. (In some cases where there are an uneven number of teams registered, your team may have a "BYE" scheduled. This means you will not play a game during that specific time period. Please make sure to check the posted schedule each week for updates.)

    • How many games will I play this season?
Each team can expect to play around 2 matches per week. For a regular 8-week season, that means each team can expect to play around 16 matches. This can change depending on your team's success in the tournament, no shows from other teams, and weather permitting. (In some cases where there are an uneven number of teams registered, your team may have a "BYE" scheduled. This means you will not play a game during that specific time period.)
    • How many players can be on a team?
Each team can have up to a maximum of 6 players on the court at a time, with at least one female on the court at all times. However, you can have more than 6 players on your roster that can rotate into play in between rallies. You can also have less than 6 players on the court, but one female player must still be on the court at all times.
    • Will there be a final tournament?
There will be a single-elimination tournament on the final week of the season. Show up at your normal day and time. We will be present to coordinate the tournament.
    • Will scores be tracked?
Scores will be tracked throughout the season and will be used to seed placement in the season finale tournament. Team captains will receive an email after each match with a link for them to upload their team's wins and losses.
    • What is a casual league?
Casual leagues are offered during the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday time slots. These leagues are generally more relaxed and social, welcoming players of all skill levels, including beginners. The focus is on having fun, getting some exercise, and enjoying the game without intense competition. Players in casual leagues are not expected to have extensive knowledge of the game.
    • What is an intermediate league?
Intermediate leagues are offered during both Thursday time slots. These leagues are intended for higher levels of play. You may expect more coordinated teams, harder hits and serves, and a more competitive environment. Players in intermediate leagues usually have a solid understanding of the game, including proper positioning, rotations, and fundamental techniques like passing, setting, hitting, and blocking. While the atmosphere should still be friendly, there is a stronger focus on strategy, teamwork, and consistent play.
    • What should I bring?
Volleyballs and scorecards will be provided. Bring weather appropriate attire. It is also advised to bring sunscreen. During the summer months, the sand can get really hot, so some players like to wear "sand socks" as protection.
    • What court do I play on?
Check the schedule for your team's court assignment. The schedules for the entire season will be available on the website beginning on the first day of the season.
    • What do I do when I arrive?
Report to your team's court assignment at the designated time. Balls are available and free to use but must be checked out from the staff by providing your ID card. Please plan to start playing at the designated time to avoid running over time into other time slots.
    • What score do we play to?
Each match is best 2 out of 3 games. The first 2 games are played to 21 points. However, you must win with a 2-point lead or be the first team to reach 25 points. If the match goes to the third tie-breaker game, the third game is only played to 15 points, and the first team to get 15 points wins.
    • How long is each match?
Each match is given 60 minutes to play best 2 out of 3 games. If the match is running close to the start of the next time slot, end the game and the team with the most points wins. In the case of a tie, play one final point, last point wins. Please note that the facility is legally obligated to turn off the stadium lights at 10pm so you must finish all matches by then.
    • What are the coed rules?
Each team must play with at least one female on the court at all times.
    • Are children allowed to play?
No. All participants must be at least 18 years old to play.
    • Will we play during inclement weather?
If we have to cancel due to inclement weather, an email will be sent out to the teams. We will try to reschedule games in the weeks immediately after the season. If there are too many inclement weather days, and the rescheduling runs into the following season, refunds will be issued for the prorated amount per game, per team.

OPEN PLAY

    • What is Open Play?
Open Play allows anybody who has registered and signed the Code of Conduct and Liability Waivers to use the open courts for self-directed play. There is no cost to register for Open Play. There are a limited number of volleyballs to check out for open play, but you are also welcome to bring your own ball.

    • When is Open Play?
      Open Play is every Friday.

SOLO PLAYER WAITLIST

    • What is the Solo Player Waitlist?
The Solo Player Waitlist allows individuals who are interested in playing in the league, but do not have a team, to register on a waitlist. If enough solo players register with similar availability, a team will be formed for them to play together.

    • How much is the registration cost for Solo Players?
Signing up on the waitlist is free. If enough players register with similar availability, and a team is formed, each player must pay a $50 registration fee to confirm their spot on the team.
